What have we learned?

In this past week of music class, we had to introduce our self to our friends and teacher. After that we have brainstorm about kolintang, also we are trying to connect music chords to the groups of different types of kolintang: Melody, Alto, Tenor, Contra, Bass.



Kolintang

What is Kolintang?


Kolintang is a musical instrument that originates from Minahasa, a place in North Sulawesi, an island in the east part of Indonesia. It is made from light but solid wood.

In its early days, Kolintang originally consisted of wooden bars placed side by side in a row on the legs of the players who would sit on the floor with both of their legs stretched out in front of them. Later on, the function of the legs was replaced either by two poles of banana trunk or by a rope which hung them up to a wooden plank.

What is the family of Kolintang and its relationship?

Kolintang is one of the percussion family which is the family of instrument that consists with a wooden bar and a mallet. The relationship of kolintang is with the minahasa native believe, it is used to do their rituals within its culture (minahasa).

Types of Kolintang?

Which is Melody, Alto, Tenor, Contra, and Bass. The most hard worker part is should be the melody, and the simple part would be the bass. These differents section of instrument (kolintang) have different voice and different amount of wood, and actually melody have the most wooden bars than others.
